Jesuit, Slidell set for 5A playoff games in Baton Rouge

Slidell is looking to make its second straight appearance in the Class 5A quarterfinals, while Jesuit is hoping to continue its defense of last year's state title. (Continued...)

Maybe both teams can lend each other support. Slidell will play at Catholic-Baton Rouge at 4 p.m. today while Jesuit goes to Central, also in Baton Rouge, for a 4 p.m. game , as well.

Slidell made the state quarterfinals a year ago after missing out on the playoffs for two straight years. It won't be easy, as Catholic is the No. 3 seed.

Jesuit, meanwhile, has really come on after an up-and-down start to the season. The Blue Jays go to 7th-seeded Central.

Baseball brackets

It might be hard to believe, but spring football is moving right along . It all depends on when schools started, but a few are heading into their third and final week.

While this story talks somewhat about central Louisiana schools, it speaks about what schools in our area are going through.

Spring football dates, games

Destrehan and Hahnville are moving into the 21st century when it comes to football fields. That, and the stadiums are getting upgrades for the first time in nearly three decades.

Both are getting new turf to play on, and it's not the natural stuff. Instead, Hahnville and Destrehan are going to be like Yenni and Memtsas with artificial turf.
