Jesuit vs. Acadiana: Jesuit wins 9-7, moves into semis
Jesuit senior Stephen Luckinovich moved from first to the mound in the bottom of the 7th after an Acadiana home run cut the lead to 9-7. The Wreckin' Rams didn't get any closer.
Jesuit moves into the semis against the winner of the Catholic-Dutchtown game. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Denham Springs.
--------
Jesuit hit into a double play to end the top of the 7th.
Acadiana is down by 3 heading into the bottom of the 7th.
I'm heading down for quotes and will update when i get back upstairs.
--------
Maybe this is why Parenton was continuing to be aggressive. Maybe he knew his team was going to fall apart in the bottom of the 6th. Jesuit committed two errors in the inning and Rittiner couldn't control himself.
Acadiana put four runs up in the inning to make it 9-6 Jesuit.
One inning left. What will happen?
--------
I again wonder why Tim Parenton is being so aggressive with such a large lead late in the game. Another base runner was thrown out trying to steal third.
Not that it matters, this was is all but over.
--------
Jesuit put down the Rams 1-2-3 in the bottom of the fifth, and time is getting short for Acadiana.
On the other hand, if you're a Jesuit fan, you're giddy with joy right now. After a slow start to the season, Jesuit has rattled off 15 wins in 16 games (including today). It'll move into the semifinals, one step closer to defending its state title.
-------
Acadiana pitcher Daniel Cloteaux kept Jesuit off the board in the top of the fifth to keep it a 9-2 game.
Joe Palmer picked up the second out of the inning when he tried to steal third. I'm not sure why, with a 9-2 lead, the Blue Jays are still playing aggressive.
Then again, I'm in the press box, and not in the dugout.
-------
Rittiner's problems gave Acadiana a chance to get back in the game, somewhat, in the bottom of the 4th. He gave up three hits and walked a batter and the Wrecking Rams plated two runs in the inning.
It's still 9-2 Jesuit, but the ol' 10-run rule won't be coming into play today.
-------
Cory Guidry led off the inning with a double to let, made it to third on a passed ball, then scored on Chad Guidry's ground out to third. It gave Jesuit a 9-0 lead and put the Blue Jays one run from 10-run ruling the No. 2-seed Wrecking Rams.
------
Jesuit's Jordan Rittiner, playing with an eight-run lead, isn't nearly as controlled as you would think. He still got out of the inning without giving up any runs, despite having runners at the corners.
Still 8-0 Jesuit.
Still little chance for Acadiana at this point.
--------
Rittiner kept Acadiana off the board in the bottom of the second, and Acadiana did the same to Jesuit in the top of the 3rd.
We're still at 8-0 Jesuit, and I don't see any reason to think this will change in favor of Acadiana anytime soon.
-------
Three Acadiana errors helped Jesuit score eight runs in the top of the second and all but end this game. Jesuit also was aided by a Mason Katz grand slam about 375 feet to left-center.
Only three of the runs were earned in the inning.
The first inning took 17 minutes. The top of the second took 26 minutes. Yikes.
-------
Blue Jays starter Jordan Rittiner is fairly good. He's around the plate consistently, but, sadly, lost his perfect game when he hit the second batter. But hey, at least he still has his no-hitter going. He also has three strikeouts.
Of course, we're only through one inning.
-------
Jesuit went down in order, all ground outs. Acadiana tried to give the Blue Jays chances, and looked nervous, quite frankly. The second baseman bobbled a grounder before getting the runner out at first, and the third baseman threw high to first base to get the final out.

Well, hello there friends. I'm at North Park in lovely Denham Springs, a couple of paces outside of Baton Rouge.
Jesuit is slated to start its Class 5A quarterfinal against Acadiana in 30 minutes, but my guess first pitch will more than likely be about 4:10 p.m. or so.
Stay tuned. I'll be updated every half inning.
