John Curtis Christian getting into the TV business
Horizon Entertainment announced Tuesday it was moving to New Orleans from Atlanta and will join with Tom Benson's Louisiana Media Company.
But the news that stands out for high school football fans is that HE founder Jason Sciavicco will produce a TV documentary series about John Curtis.
If you're thinking MTV's Two-a-Days or ESPN's Varsity Inc., well, you're right. Sciavicco produced both shows. (keep reading)
"We've been keeping an eye on and talking to them for three years," Sciavicco said.
He said they start each year wit 50 schools, cut that list to 20 and then 10 before a final cut to five finalists. His company then goes to each of the final five schools.
And this time, Curtis stood out as the school to do. It's just a coincidence that the company is moving to New Orleans the same year it films Curtis, he said.
Head coach and man-in-charge J.T. Curtis gave Sciavicco the green light to get whatever footage he needs.
"It's always great to go into somewhere and they say you have all access," Sciavicco said. "The have nothing to hide."
Two-a-Days followed Hoover High, a Birmingham, Ala., high school for two years. Varsity Inc., covered West Monroe in northeast Louisiana.
And right off the bat, Sciavicco saw a glaring difference in Curtis from the other two schools.
"The first thing I noticed is they do not have funds like the two others," Sciavicco said, adding that Hoover's booster club recently raised between $600,000 and $700,000 and West Monroe just opened a $1 million-plus facility.
The series will be 8-to-11 half hour episodes. Sciavicco said his company is close to an agreement with a network to show the series. He said he couldn't disclose just yet which network he's in talks with.

I can't wait for the world to see what a great school John Curtis is. Hopefully, it will open there eyes and see that Curtis is not all about football, but also christianity and education. It is one of the best foundations to be a part of. Good luck to the entire Curtis family!
I cannot wait to see the show....good luck.
