Reclassification delayed because Hurricanes Gustav, Ike

Reclassification for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association was supposed to begin Oct. 15 when schools were told to report their first enrollment numbers.

But because of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike, that first report won't be until Feb. 1, 2009. Anything reported after Feb. 9 will be considered delinquent and any school not reporting numbers will not be classified.

That's not a huge deal except that it could make it difficult for football coaches to begin putting together schedules for next fall.

East Jefferson head coach Nick Saltaformaggio said at the very least schools could be able to schedule the first two or three games, but anything beyond that will be delayed.
