National rankings: Why they're a farce
Is it possible to get any real joy out of national prep rankings? Can you really puff out your chest and talk about how good you are when the people who vote at Rivals.com show they're not keen to what's going on?
I'll get to all this in a second.
But first, the rankings.
MaxPreps.com and Rivals.com are the go-to sources for national rankings.
MaxPreps National Top 100 (Louisiana teams only)
No. 5 Destrehan (down from No. 2 a week ago)
No. 52 Barbe
No. 59 Higgins
MaxPreps La. Top 25
1. Destrehan
2. Barbe
3. Higgins
4. Curtis
5. West Monroe
6. Acadiana
7. Evangel
8. Bastrop
9. Dutchtown
10. St. Thomas More
11. Notre Dame
12. St. James
13. Parkview Baptis
14. Brother Martin
15. Ehret
16. Rummel
17. Hahnville
18. Amite
19. Neville
20. Eunice
21. Central - BR
22. Westlake
23. Mandeville
24. Calvary Baptist
25. Byrd
Rivals.com Top 100 (Louisiana teams only)
No. 31 West Monroe
No. 62 Bastrop
No. 63 Destrehan
No. 68 Evangel
OK. Here's my beef and why I don't necessarily buy into A) national rankings and B) Rivals.com rankings.
Bastrop was No. 15 a week ago and Evangel was No. 49. Evangel beat Bastrop this past week, ending the Rams' 49-game win streak.
I get that Bastrop fell. But to drop Evangel A) 19 places after beating the No. 15 ranked team is ludicrous and B) behind Bastrop is even more ridiculous.
Who are these people?
Tell me. What do you think of these national rankings and is Destrehan the hands-down best team in the state, like MaxPreps says, or is West Monroe that much better, like Rivals.com says?

Bradley,
I enjoyed our back and forth last season and look forward to you chats regarding the Saints and your articles on HS ball. My vote is simply you are the champ until you are removed. That being said, unless and until W. Monroe beats Destrehan, or the Wildcats are knocked out, Destrehan is at the top.
