Former Curtis stars win Player of the Week Awards in college

Two former John Curtis football stars received big awards for their play in college this past weekend.


Joe McKnight, class of 2007 was named the Pac-10 conference's offensive player of the week. "McKnight, a junior from River Ridge, La., played a key role in USC's 18-15 road win at No. 8-ranked Ohio State. Week 2 observations

The biggest thing about week 2 so far is that it has my appetite whetted for Curtis-Salmen next week.

Sure, the Spartans were expected to win their first two and they have, but they are a very good team and will be a rare test for Curtis prior to the postseason.

Thibodaux's big win over Destrehan has them marked as a team to beat in 5A, while Brother Martin has done nothing to dispel its spot as a 5A favorite, perhaps a Catholic League tea

Some head turners in week 1

Okay, so nothing should REALLY be a surprise in prep football's first week.

South Plaquemines and Belle Chasse were supposed to have a classic - and they did. Karr looks like it will be a force again this year. Curis - same old, same old. Brother Martin also looked very impressive, while Holy Cross did not.

But there were some head turners. It wasn't so much that Franklinton beat Amite, but the score, that stood out. West St. John knocked
