Week Three Preview

by Evan Chevrier

Canby @ Beaverton

It could be a case of trading places. If Beaverton can defend their home field this Friday, and upset 5th ranked Canby, the Beavers would likely move in to the top 10.
The Cougars have been impressive so far this season, knocking off Sprague, Clackamas, and Central Catholic, but will be tested in the next three weeks. After this Friday's game at Beaverton, the Cougs take on Grant and Tigard.
The Beavers are 2-1, losing by only seven points to Grant, one of the state's most explosive teams. Call this a make or break game for Beaverton, playing in the state's toughest League.
Prediction: Beaverton 28 Canby 27

Jesuit @ Tigard

Not a good week to catch Jesuit. You have to believe the Crusaders, coming off a 21-0 upset loss to Lake Oswego, will be ready to go this Friday, and Tigard is going to feel the brunt of it.
I can only imagine what practice was like this week, on the 9000 block of Beaverton Hillsdale Highway. Ken Potter is a nice man, but he's not used to losing, and probably made sure it won't happen again.
The Tigers (1-2) meanwhile, are off to a rough start. But there is still a good chance they could win the Pacific League. The October 5th against Canby will be a must win.
Prediction: Jesuit 35 Tigard 21

Grant @ Southridge

This week we get to find out how good Grant really is. Are they the team that squeaked out a seven point win over Beaverton in week one. Or are they the team that threw 58 on the board against Newberg. I'm guessing we're going to see more of both. The Generals have some tough non-league games, against Southridge and Canby, and a few games where they can throw it into cruise control, Franklin, Roosevelt, you get the picture.
As for Southridge, the road is not getting any easier. The Skyhawks sill have Grant, Westview and Jesuit left on their schedule. If they get through it all with a winning record, Brad Mastrud will be coach of the year.
Prediction: Grant 28 Southridge 21
