Pepperdine pipeline gone dry?

by Evan Chevrier

I caught up with Grant point guard Paul McCoy last week, the same day he found out that Pepperdine coach Vance Walberg had resigned. McCoy has signed a letter of intent to play his college ball there. He was very disappointed, and said he wasn't sure what to think. It sounds like McCoy is reconsidering, and he hoped to talk to Pepperdine about what his options were. He mentioned maybe going somewhere where he could play basketball and football, something he won't be doing in Malibu.
I told him going to school on the beach still sounded like a good deal to me, Britney seems to like it there. Either way, McCoy is a great kid, and whoever lands him will be fortunate.
Oregon City's Brad Tinsley and Benson's Ameer Shamsud-Din also planned to attend Pepperdine. No word on if those plans have changed.
