How to support your school's athletics
There are a number of fundraisers supporting various school-related causes planned throughout the state in the coming weeks. Here are a few of them:
The National Education Association Rhode Island Children’s Fund is hosting its first 5K Run/Walk, Saturday at 10 a.m. at Goddard Park beach in Warwick.
Established by the NEARI’s Executive Board in 1985, the Children’s Fund provides anonymous financial assistance when a member of the organization encounters a student in need of even the most basic of necessities, such as a hot meal, glasses, medicine or a winter coat.
The 3.1-mile road race will feature prizes, including $100 each to the top male and female finisher, T-shirts, food and entertainment.
On-line registration, which closes today, at http://www.needtorace.com is $15. The race-day entry fee is $20.

The NK5k 5K Road Race and Walk, presented by United Financial Mortgage Corporation, is set for 9:30 a.m. Sept. 23 at North Kingstown High School, located at 150 Fairway Dr.
This event, which features an Olympic-style finish on the track and also includes kids’ races beginning at 8:30, will benefit the North Kingstown High School PTSO Scholarship Fund, as well as the high school and middle school sports programs.
Entry fee is $20 for the 5K and $2 for the kids’ races ($8 with a T-shirt.).

The Chariho Regional School District, which serves the Charlestown, Richmond and Hopkinton communities, will host the Arcadia 5K Walk (Browning Mill Pond Trail) and 10K Run (Midway, Austin Farm Road and Brook Trail), Sept. 30 at Arcadia State Park in Exeter.
Participants are asked to solicit donations, with proceeds going to the Chariho Community Educational Project, which awards scholarships to graduating seniors in the Chariho Regional School District and provides grants for innovative classroom projects.

The South Kingstown Athletic Boosters are sponsoring their eighth annual Rebel Classic Golf Tournament to benefit the school’s athletic programs, Oct. 7 at Laurel Lane Country Club.
The tourney, which will award prizes for the longest drive, closest to the pin, a putting contest and holes in one, will feature a Texas-style barbecue and raffle afterward.
