Sentinels & Knights captured tennis titles


PAWTUCKET - Smithfield and Providence Country Day captured the final two R.I. Interscholastic League girls state team tennis championships with victories in the Division III and IV title matches respectively Monday at Slater Park.
Smithfield successfully defended its Division III title with a 5-2 victory over North Providence. Providence Country Day won the first girls state tennis title in school history as the Knights shutout Middletown 7-0 in the Division IV title match.
Mount St. Charles and Classical had won the other girls state net titles on Sunday as Mount posted a 5-2 victory over Bay View in the Division I title match and Classical defeated Moses Brown, 5-2, in the Division II championship contest.
