H.S. basketball officials blowing the whistle on cancer
Rhode Island High School Basketball Officials will be participating in the national “Blow The Whistle on Cancer” campaign during the week of January 27th.
In cooperation with the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society, boy’s and girl’s officials are contributing a portion of their game fees as part of the Coaches vs Cancer crusade.
As a display of their commitment to the campaign, officials will be using pink or blue whistles in all varsity games played during that week.
The American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches initiated the nationwide effort in 1993, to unite coaches across the country for this worthy cause.
Today more than 500 coaches are involved, along with high school and college referees. Coaches vs Cancer has raised nearly $40 million since its’ inception.
Sincerely,
Mike Swistak for RI Boys’ and Girl’s Referee Associations
