Top-3 finishes for EG's Davis, Feigen at Dartmouth Relays
East Greenwich boys indoor assistant coach Paul Evasick reports on the team's strong showing at the Dartmouth Relays:
Two Shine at Dartmouth Relays! Tom Davis, Mark Feigen
This past Saturday the Avengers competed at the Dartmouth relays. The meet attracts the best talent from the east coast in Track and Field. East had several athletes place in the top twenty and two that placed in the top 3.
Senior Tom Davis continued his climb to the top of the Nation’s rankings in the 25# weight throw. Tom was very consistent today as all his throws were over 57 feet and above, he uncorked a personal best throw of 61-5 on his second throw of the competition which held up for an overall third place finish. “ It’s pretty special for these kids to come to a big time meet such as Dartmouth and compete against kids from all over the Northeast and do well.” Especially in the weight throw, there are only a handfull of states that allow the weight throw, so all the best throwers are at a meet like Dartmouth.
Coach E “ Tom had a great day today, but he has more to give and achieve, he is improving each time out as his confidence grows and he believes in himself.” We have not seen his best yet.”
The other Avenger to have a big day was Junior Captain Mark Feigen , a first team All-State cross country runner, Mark ran a personal best 2:37.95 in the 1000M. That time was good for an overall 3rd place finish and a medal. Mark had a hard time getting out of the pack of runners at the start, the kids are so good and fast at a meet like this. Mark made a move on the second of 5 laps as he went to the front of the pack to give himself some clean space to run in. He never gave back the lead and finished strong with a great kick the last 100 meters to win his heat and take third place overall. “ Mark is such a strong runner and he has one of the best finishes in the state. He has several gears he can switch on and off when he needs them, he surprises a lot of competitors when he shifts into one of those gears!”
Others having very strong days were: Senior Captains Wes Evasick, Andrew Glod, Alex Iwamoto, Akash Chougule, all finished in the top twenty in very competitive fields.
Wes 8.48 in 55 hurdles, Andrew 1:28.95 600M, Alex 19-5 in Long Jump and Set the new Indoor School Record, and Akash 10:18.0 in the 2 mile. The 4X400 relay also had a good day as they finished 16th overall with a season best time of 3:43.8. Senior Mark Garlock, junior Mark Feigen, Senior Andrew Glod and Senior Chris Walsh.
The team travels to another regional meet next weekend at Yale University.
