Falk ``a class act,'' says one of his former athletes

Former URI high jumper Tom Harkins shares a fond memory of Bill Falk following today's story announcing that Falk is sponsoring the RIIL indoor and outdoor track and cross country championships, as well as a number of track clinics through a personal donation:

In February 1978 I was a high jumper on one of Coach Falk's very good URI teams when I suffered a serious injury that left me blind in one eye. Bill Falk was the first person, other than my parents, to come check on me at South County Hospital. I'll never forget it. He was just starting up M-F Athletic and brought me a new pair of running shoes. My high jumping days ended with the injury and the shoes are long gone, but Bill Falk's kindness and generosity have stayed with me to this day. He's always been a class act. Thank you for letting non-trackies know about a great guy.

Sincerely,
Tom Harkins
