The WIAA Executive Board held its January meeting last weekend, taking action on the following issues:
1. The Board approved an increase in the girls state wrestling championship bracket from eight (8) to twelve (12) allocations.
2. The Board voted to move the 2008 1A State Softball and 1A and 2A State Baseball Championships from Wenatchee to Spokane. Franklin Field will be the site for the 1A State Softball Cha

The WIAA state bowling championships are set for this Friday and Saturday at the Narrows Plaza Bowl in University Place. This year’s individual tournament features 144 bowlers competing for the individual state titles in 2A/3A and 4A. Games will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday with awards scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The WIAA Salute to Spirit is this Saturday at the Everett Events Center, showcasing high school cheerleader and dance/drill teams. 29 high schools and 418 competitors will compete in cheerleader categories and 30 high schools and 572 dancers in the dance/drill categories. High schools from across the state will be performing. Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School (Surrey, British Columbia) will travel from Canada to participate.

The only matchup between two ranked teams is at Mount Rainier Friday matching the 8th ranked Rams against 9th ranked and Seamount Rival Kennedy. MR is coming off a huge 61-58 win over 3rd ranked and previously unbeaten Renton on Tuesday to improve the Rams record to 10-1 and undefeated against 3a competition. Kennedy has rolled to a 9-1 record and is also undefeated in 3a competition. In fact, the Rams and Lancers both lost to the same team
Elma High School is hosting the Japanese national wrestling team tomorrow night at 7:00 pm. An all-star team of Elma wrestlers will take on what's being billed as a pretty prestigious foreign team. The Japanese team visited Mead in Spokane earlier in the week before heading to the NW to compete against the WESCO All Stars in Snohomish yesterday.

Just got an email from KING 5 sports producer Joel Knip. He wanted to pass on that Prep Zone reporter Chris Egan got a phone call today from Lakes quarterback Calvin Schmidtke. Schmidtke told Egan that he's committed to WSU. Schmidtke, who transferred to Lakes for his senior year, threw for 2,724 yards and 37 TD's this past season.
