'08 Salute to Spirit, Saturday
The WIAA Salute to Spirit is this Saturday at the Everett Events Center, showcasing high school cheerleader and dance/drill teams. 29 high schools and 418 competitors will compete in cheerleader categories and 30 high schools and 572 dancers in the dance/drill categories. High schools from across the state will be performing. Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School (Surrey, British Columbia) will travel from Canada to participate.
The final performances of the day will feature exhibition routines by the Seattle Sonics Dance Team and the Sequim Garbage Can Band, followed by the awards presentation. Doors open at 11 a.m. for fans, with the first performances at noon and the final performance at 5:30 p.m.
New to this year’s event will be the “People’s Choice” awards. All fans who purchase a souvenir program will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite cheer and favorite dance/drill performances of the day. Votes will be tabulated at the end of the competition and the “People’s Choice” winners will be recognized during the awards presentation.
