WIAA board meets, changes ahead

The WIAA Executive Board held its January meeting last weekend, taking action on the following issues:

1. The Board approved an increase in the girls state wrestling championship bracket from eight (8) to twelve (12) allocations.

2. The Board voted to move the 2008 1A State Softball and 1A and 2A State Baseball Championships from Wenatchee to Spokane. Franklin Field will be the site for the 1A State Softball Championships and Avista Stadium will be the site for the 1A and 2A State Baseball Championships. Both events are scheduled for Friday, May 23, and Saturday, May 24, 2008.

3. The annual WIAA Winter Coalition meeting took place on Monday, January 28, at the Spirit of Washington Events Center in Renton. The day consisted of a review and discussion of the proposed amendments to be voted upon by the 2008 Representative Assembly on April 25, 2008, and nominations of Mary Erickson, WIAA District 4, and Art Jarvis, WIAA District 3, for the 2008 Gareth Giles Memorial Recognition Award.

The complete minutes of the January Board meeting will soon be available at www.wiaa.com.
