Lacrosse championships set for May 17

SEATTLE – The 30th annual Washington State Lacrosse High School State Championships are set to take place Saturday, May 17 at Seattle Center’s Memorial Stadium. The all-day state championship event for boys and girls high school teams gets underway at 9 a.m. and continues until 8 p.m.


The Boys Division II state championship game, the first of two boys and two girls championship matchups, kicks off at 10:30 a.m. The Boys Division I title game gets underway at 1 p.m. In girls play, the Girls Varsity B state title game kicks-off at 4:30 p.m., while the Girls Varsity A state title matchup gets underway at 6:30 p.m. General admission tickets for the full day of lacrosse are $6 for both students and adults. Admission is free for children five-years-old and under. Tickets are available only at the gate on May 17.


State tournament play gets underway Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10 with boys and girls quarter -final playoff games. State semi-final action takes place Monday, May 12, Tuesday, May 13 and Wednesday, May 14. “Play-in” games take place in Boys Division I and II from May 6 – 8.

In the 2007 Washington State Lacrosse High School Championships, Bainbridge defeated Mercer Island 9 – 7 for their 11th state title. In Boys Division II, Tacoma defeated Puyallup 13 – 7 for their first state title. In Girls Varsity A, Lakeside defeated Bainbridge 10 – 6 for their second consecutive and fifth all-time state title. In Girls Varsity B, Tacoma defeated Lakeside 18 – 10 for their first state title. Tacoma now plays in Girls Varsity A.

Boys Division I
In Boys Division I, undefeated Bainbridge Island, the 2007 state champion, is the top seed. Other teams earning playoff bids are #2 Issaquah (12-1-0), #3 Mercer Island (10-3-0), #4 Skyline (9-4-0), #5 Maple Valley (8-5-0 ), #6 Curtis (8-5-0 ). The 7th and 8th seed will be determined on Thursday, May 8 with two play-in games to break-up an unprecedented four-way tie. In the play in games, Garfield (6-7-0) takes on Bellevue (6-7-0) at 7 p.m. at Skyline High School and Lakeside (6-7-0) takes on Puyallup (6-7-0) at 7 p.m. at Curtis High School.
