Ten Questions: Evergreen Coach David Lewis
Up next is Evergreen High School's first-year head football coach David Lewis. Last season, the Wolverines went 9-1, reaching the first round of the 3A Championships. Coach Lewis teaches Weights, and played football for El Toro High School in California.
1. “How long have you been coaching?”
"Twenty years."
2. “What is your favorite part about coaching?”
"Working with kids and watching them turn into men both physically and in maturity."
3. “What players or teams (offense, defense, special teams) are you expecting big things from this season?"
"All players and teams need to step up."
4. “Who, or what, do you see as your main competition next season?”
"Everyone. We don't want to take anyone lightly."
5. "What has been your most defining moment as a head football coach?"
"I would consider anything as a defining moment."
6. "What was the most rewarding event of last season?"
"Being ranked in the top three, academically, in the State of Oregon 5A for the second year."
7. “What is the hardest part of coaching?”
"Having to raise money for the kids to do things."
8. “Who do you consider to be your role model?”
"There are so many. My dad, high school coaches Larry Nita, Bob Johnson, retired college coach Bob Stagle, Walter Payton, John Wooden, Tony Dungy."
9. "What is your favorite hobby outside of sports?”
"My family."
10. “Do you have a pre-game routine, and if so, what is it?”
"Clothes, music and Mentos."
Bonus question: "What do you want your players to walk away from your program with?"
"Respect, pride, discipline, the sense of family and that sometimes you do things because its the right thing to do."
