Ten Questions: Lakes Coach Dave Miller

Dave Miller has been head football coach at Lakes High School for nine years, last season guiding the 10-0 Lancers to the first round of the 3A Championships. Coach Miller is a Career Specialist at the school, and was the Western Cascade Conference Coach of the Year for 2007. A graduate of Clover Park HS in 1977, Coach Miller played football at Wenatchee Valley College before attending PLU.


1. "How long have you been coaching?"
"27 years. 1981-85 assistant at Clover Park High School. 1986-1999 Offensive Coordinator at Lakes. 1999-to-present head football coach at Lakes High School."


2. "What is your favorite part about coaching?"
"The relationships built with players and coaches."


3. "What players or teams (offense, defense, special teams) are you expecting big things from this season?"
"Our young players on offense and defense will be fun to watch.

4. "Who, or what, do you see as your main competition next season?"
"Our youthful inexperience will be a challenge to overcome. Franklin Pierce, Bonney Lake and Peninsula should be tough in our conference."


5. "What has been your most defining moment as a head football coach?"
"Watching our players transform into responsible men of character."


6. "What was the most rewarding event of last season?"
"Winning at the Qwest Kickoff Classic against a quality program in Gig Harbor and our undefeated league championship."


7. "What is the hardest part of coaching?"
"Seeing players make poor choices, and battling the lazy bug that is prevalent in many youngsters these days."


8. "Who do you consider to be your role model?"
"My father Bob Miller. He taught me how to work hard and to treat people the way you want to be treated. He set a great example of class and dignity and taught me how to be a gentlemen."


9. "What is your favorite hobby outside of sports?"
"Spending time with my wife Sonia who is also my best friend."

10. "Do you have a pre-game routine, and if so, what is it?"
"Talking on the phone with my son Drew, and daughters Amber and Tayler wishing me good luck."


Bonus question: "What do you want your players to walk away from your
program with?"

"I want them to have a great experience and to understand how the importance of doing things right and with class along with hard work will make them successful."
