Ten Questions: Ed-Woodway's John Gradwohl

Head football coach John Gradwohl has been with the Edmonds-Woodway High School program for 12 years. Coach Gradwohl teaches Weight Training and played football at PLU. Last year, the Coach guided the 12-0 Warriors to the 4A Championship Semifinals, losing a very close game to Lewis and Clark, 28-26.


1.“How long have you been coaching?”
"18 years."


2.“What is your favorite part about coaching?”
"Seeing kids succeed after working hard towards a goal."


3.“What players or teams (offense, defense, special teams) are you expecting big things from this season?
"Tony Heard, Kin Kuses, Andy Willcock and Chris Routen."

4.“Who, or what, do you see as your main competition next season?”
"Kamiak, Meadowdale, Cascade, Mariner and Jackson"


5."What has been your most defining moment as a head football coach?"
"Four years ago after a tough loss to Everett, I had to regroup and refocus."


6."What was the most rewarding event of last season?"
"Watching my team come together and enjoy the trip."


7.“What is the hardest part of coaching?”
"Time."


8.“Who do you consider to be your role model?”
"Frosty Westering."


9.“What is your favorite hobby outside of sports?”
"Hanging with my wife and daughter."


10.“Do you have a pre-game routine, and if so, what is it?”
"Take a nap."


Bonus question: "What do you want your players to walk away from your program with?"
"The ability to work with others and look outside yourself is much more rewarding then doing things for yourself."
