Lindbergh senior gets surgery after helmet-to-helmet hit
A Lindbergh football player had to have surgery to relieve pressure on his brain after a helmet-to-helmet hit during the Eagles' 33-3 win over Highline on Friday night. According to the Seattle Times, 17 year old Robert Wilson was in stable condition at Harborview Medical Center on Monday. The injury happened while Wilson was attempting to make a tackle. Wilson lay on the turf for 45 minutes during the game. As the Times article points out, the accident came nearly three years to the day when Tyee's DeShawn Smith died after after a helmet-to-helmet hit in 2004. Doctors are advising Wilson never to play football again. One nice note, Washington coach Ty Willingham -- who was in the hospital visiting one of his own players -- visited Wilson Saturday night in Harborview.
