Federal Way HS to retire jersey
On Tuesday, Federal Way High School will retire the jersey of one of it's best girls soccer players ever -- Justi Baumgardt-Yamada. The ceremony will happen at halftime of the Eagles' game against Kent-Meridian at Memorial Stadium. A 1992 graduate, Baumgardt-Yamada took Federal Way to back-to-back state titles (1991, 1992). She made the All-South Puget Sound League's first team in all four seasons and was named the '92 Parade magazine high school All-American player of the year and SPSL Most Valuable Player in her junior and senior seasons. An academic All-American, Baumgardt-Yamada played college ball at the University of Portland and eventually played for the U.S. women's national team from '93-'99. She currently coaches the Crossfire Premier Club in Bellevue.
