Skyline QB Jake Heaps Gatorade POY

Skyline quarterback Jake Heaps has been awarded the 2008 Gatorade Washington State Football Player of the Year for his outstanding season. A junior, Heaps has passed for 2,725 yards and 35 TDs (in case you didn't know, some national scouts rank Heaps as the best junior in the country).

Ranked sixth in the nation by USA Today, his top-ranked Spartans take on Issaquah tonight in the Class 4A championship game at the Tacoma Dome. Congrats to the 6'2", 195 lb Heaps. Past state recipients include last season's Ed-Woodway's Tony Heard, and O'Dea's Taylor Mays. The Colt's Peyton Manning, out of Isidore Newman High School in New Orleans, won the national award in 1993-94.
