Coach fired for 100-0 win over basketball team

Well, the Texas coach who made national headlines when his high school girls basketball team won over a learning-disabled team by the score of 100 to 0, was fired on Sunday. In case you haven't heard, the blowout happened on January 13th, in a game between the Covenant School and a Dallas-area private school for the learning disabled, Dallas Academy. Here was the coach's response (Micah Grimes) following public outcry of the game:

"We played the game as it was meant to be played and would not intentionally run up the score on any opponent. Although a wide-margin victory is never evidence of compassion, my girls played with honor and integrity and showed respect to Dallas Academy."

A contender for the state championship, Convenant had a 59-0 lead at the half. They also continued to shoot 3-pointers and employ a full-court press defense into the fourth quarter. Some of the girls on the Convenant hoops team have expressed regret for the game.

The losing team, Dallas Academy, specializes in teaching students with attention span problems and dyslexia. The varsity team only eight players on its roster and is winless in the last four seasons. You can read more about the story here.
