Playoffs

Once again we have reached late October and if you are a high school football fan you are frustrated by the pitiful system Missouri has in place to crown a state champion. Why is it that a team like Eureka who loses one game in October is punished while teams that win only 4 games all year will make the playoffs? It happens every year and yet Missouri can't fix the problem.

Starting next season it will change with two teams from every district making the playoffs but it still doesn't guarantee a reward for teams that win their conference or teams that have been placed in tougher districts due to geography than actual skill levels.

You have to look no further than the other side of the river in Illinois to see how a playoff should be run. ALL conference champions receive automatic bids. Then in decreasing win orders teams make the playoffs. They work their way down from 9-0 to usually 5-4 and those teams are seeded. The other great part is that they don't fall victim to poor geography. If the best two teams are in Chicago they won't face each other in the first round. In Missouri it has happened numerous times that the top 2 teams in the Suburban North are playing each other in the first round when they were most likely the top 2 teams in the state.

What thoughts do you have on the playoffs systems?

Leave them below and we'll discuss further.
